Admirals strike back, beat Aeros after Sunday’s loss

Ramzi Abid scored the game-winning goal in overtime for Milwaukee, who defeated the Houston Aeros 3-2 in a wild finish at the Toyota Center on Tuesday night.

Goals from John Vigilante and defenseman Mikko Lehtonen, who also assisted on the game winner, put the Admirals ahead 2-0 midway through the second period.

Falling into a 2-0 hole, Houston defenseman Shawn Belle scored a power-play goal towards the end of the second period, closing the gap to 2-1.

With both teams firing 13 shots in the third period, Matt Foy scored a short-handed goal with 15 seconds left in regulation helping the Aeros secure a point in the standings, before Abid’s goal in overtime won it for Milwaukee.

Karl Goehring stopped 33 of 35 shots on the night for Milwaukee, who has gone 6-2-0-1 in its last nine games, with one of the losses coming at the hands of the Aeros by a score of 6-1 on Sunday.

Junior Lessard recorded a goal in regulation and the final goal of the shootout as the Iowa Stars ended their five game losing skid with a 3-2 win at home against the Chicago Wolves.

Dan Ellis made 27 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped all three Wolves’ shooters to earn the win for Iowa, who face Chicago again this Saturday.

Francis Wathier provided the other goal for the Stars, while Vojtech Polak, Joel Lundqvist and Lessard all scored in the shootout.

Darren Haydar and defenseman Mark Popovic both scored for Chicago, who lost its second consecutive game in a shootout.
