Aeros battle back, outlast Stars in shootout

HOUSTON 3, TEXAS 2 (SO)
Houston twice rallied from a one-goal deficit and eventually took a 3-2 shootout victory over host Texas on Monday in preseason action at the Cedar Park Center.

Jon DiSalvatore, Morten Madsen, and Pete Zingoni all tallied shootout goals for the Aeros, with Madsen potting the game-winner in the third round.

After a scoreless first period, the Stars grabbed a 1-0 lead when defenseman Brandon Straub lit the lamp 7:33 into the second.

But Houston bounced back to tie it just 1:24 later when Chad Rau beat Texas goaltender Matt Climie.

The Stars reclaimed their one-goal lead at 8:11 of the third stanza off the stick of Kevin DeVergilio, only to watch the Aeros’ Gregg Johnson tie it again 50 seconds later, at the 9:01 mark.

It remained a 2-2 deadlock through overtime, and after Climie denied Duncan Milroy on the Aeros’ first shootout try, the visitors converted each of their next three chances.

Houston goaltender Wade Dubielewicz stopped three of four Texas tries, surrendering a goal to Greg Rallo in the third round. Dubielewicz made 24 saves through regulation and overtime.
