AHL announces front-office addition

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … American Hockey League President and CEO David Andrews announced today that Samantha Wood has been named to the position of Coordinator of Digital Media and Communications for the AHL.

Wood will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the AHL’s digital media and social media strategies, including all external communications across public relations, marketing, ticket sales and sponsorship platforms.

Wood, a Philadelphia native, comes to the AHL following two seasons with the NHL’s Boston Bruins, where she helped manage content for the team’s website and assisted in game-day operations for the Bruins’ award-winning media relations department during the team’s 2010-11 Stanley Cup championship season. Wood also previously interned at New England Sports Network, ESPN and Massachusetts’ Bay State Games. A 2011 graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, she received her bachelor’s degrees magna cum laude in journalism and English.

In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for the players, coaches, managers, executives and broadcasters of all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 83 percent of today’s NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and for the 10th year in a row, more than 6 million fans attended AHL games across North America in 2010-11.
