roc06_200.jpgSPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League’s Board of Governors, convened today for their annual Spring Meeting in Chicago, has unanimously granted approval of the transfer of controlling interest in the Rochester Americans franchise to Arrow Express Sports.

Arrow Express Sports is owned by Curt Styres, a businessman from Ohsweken, Ont.

The Amerks are the second-oldest team in the American Hockey League, set to begin their 53rd season in 2008-09. Rochester has won six Calder Cup championships in its history, the most recent in 1996.

In operation since 1936, the AHL continues to serve as the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. More than 84 percent of today’s NHL players are American Hockey League graduates, and this season marks the seventh consecutive year in which more than 6 million fans have attended AHL games across North America.
