The first puck of the 2019 Calder Cup Playoffs drops in San Diego tonight as the Gulls host the San Jose Barracuda in Game 1 of their Pacific Division semifinal series… San Jose finished its regular-season schedule with seven wins in its last nine games, and remains the only Pacific Division team to reach the playoffs each year since its formation in 2015-16… Alexander True (24-31-55) led the Barracuda in scoring in 2018-19, nearly doubling his point total from his rookie year in 2017-18 (15-13-28)… True was also the leading scorer in the season series between these teams, putting up 7-4-11 in 10 contests… Dylan Gambrell, assigned to the Barracuda by the parent San Jose Sharks on Tuesday, had 20-25-45 in 51 AHL appearances this season… Veteran forward T.J. Hensick had 6-14-20 in 23 games after signing with the Barracuda on Feb. 13… Sam Carrick paced the Gulls with 32-29-61 in 61 games this season, surpassing his previous career highs of 16 goals, 28 assists and 41 points… Carrick was one of four 20-goal scorers on the Gulls, joining Chase De Leo (20-35-55), Sam Steel (20-21-41) and Corey Tropp (20-20-40)… San Diego took six of the 10 meetings from San Jose during the regular season… The Barracuda are 1-4 all-time in Game 1’s, while the Gulls are 2-2.

In last night’s Stanley Cup Playoff action, 2016 Calder Cup Playoffs MVP Oliver Bjorkstrand scored his second consecutive game-winning goal and Columbus defeated Tampa Bay, 7-3, to complete a four-game sweep of the President’s Trophy winners… Bjorkstrand tied an AHL record with six GWG during the 2016 postseason with the Lake Erie Monsters… 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs MVP Robin Lehner made 32 saves as the New York Islanders eliminated Pittsburgh with a 3-1 win in Game 4… Kyle Connor scored 6:02 into overtime to lift Winnipeg to a 2-1 win over St. Louis, tying their series at 2-2… Max Pacioretty had four points, Shea Theodore added a goal and an assist and Vegas blanked San Jose, 5-0, to take a 3-1 series lead.
