Providence hosts Hershey in Game 5 of the Atlantic Division Finals this afternoon at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center with both teams looking to grab the series lead… The Bruins won Game 4 on Friday night by a 2-1 score, outshooting the Bears 39-11 in the process… Providence has a 79-26 advantage in shots on goal over the last two games… Alex Grant (1-2-3) and Chris Porter (3-1-4) scored for the Bruins in Game 4… Grant’s goal was his first of the playoffs after he scored a career-high 17 times during the regular season… Dustin Gazley (1-0-1) picked up his first point of the postseason with the Bears’ only goal of Game 4… Pheonix Copley (5-4, 2.13, .933) stopped 28 of 30 shots on Friday before suffering an injury on the Bruins’ second goal; Vitek Vanecek stopped all nine shots he faced in relief… Vanecek, who stopped 142 of 148 shots in five regular-season appearances against Providence (2-1-1, 1.28, .959), has not allowed a goal in his last 201:06 of work against the Bruins… Zane McIntyre (5-4, 2.04, .929) and the B’s have still not given up a first-period goal all postseason (96 shots).

In the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs last night, 2008 AHL All-Star Bobby Ryan netted the winning goal as Ottawa opened the Eastern Conference Finals with a 2-1 victory at Pittsburgh… Ryan and Jean-Gabriel Pageau each finished the night with a goal and an assist and Craig Anderson made 27 saves.

In the 2017 IIHF World Championships yesterday, 2016 Calder Cup champion Markus Hannikainen scored in overtime to send Finland to a 3-2 win over Norway… Andrew Copp, who spent part of the 2016-17 season with the Manitoba Moose, scored the winning goal as the United States rallied past Latvia, 5-3… Andrei Vasilevskiy made 22 saves and Evgenii Dadonov had two goals and an assist as Russia blanked Slovakia, 6-0… 2005 AHL All-Star Christian Ehrhoff scored in Germany’s 4-1 win over Italy… Former Toronto Marlies forward Fabrice Herzog scored twice, including the winner in overtime, as Switzerland upset Canada, 3-2.


On This Date
May 14, 2006 – P.A. Parenteau scores the series-clinching goal 3:06 into overtime as Portland advances to the conference finals with a 4-3 win over Hartford.
