St. John’s welcomes the Portland Pirates to Mile One Centre in the first of eight meetings on the year between the Atlantic Division foes… The Pirates won the Atlantic last year but are off to a 2-3-0-1 start in 2011-12, and they head to Newfoundland coming off back-to-back losses on home ice… Brock Trotter, who had 2-5-7 in five games with Hamilton to begin the season, was assigned to Portland after being acquired by the parent Phoenix Coyotes in a trade with Montreal on Sunday… The IceCaps have earned points in five of their first six games (4-1-1-0) and sit tied atop the division… 20-year-old rookie Carl Klingberg (6-0-6), a second-round draft pick by the Winnipeg organization in 2009, has five goals in his last three games for St. John’s… IceCaps forward Jason King was Portland’s second-leading scorer in 2007-08 and helped the club reach the conference finals… Pirates assistant coach John Slaney is a St. John’s native.

After snapping a three-game losing streak with a 6-5 overtime win vs. Peoria on Saturday, Texas opens a four-game, six-day road swingin Rockford tonight… Rookie Matt Fraser had two goals and an assist in the win, scoring the game-winning goal at 2:00 of OT… Travis Morin (1g, 3a) and Philip Larsen (4a) had four points each in Saturday’s victory… Defenseman Dan Spang (2-4-6) has a point in all five games this season for the Stars… Texas is an AHL-best 10-for-28 (35.7 percent) on the power play this season… Rockford lost both ends of a weekend home-and-home with Chicago to fall back to .500 (3-3-0-0) for the year… Defenseman Brian Connelly remains the IceHogs’ leading scorer with 0-6-6 on the year… The Stars have won five of seven visits all-time to the BMO Harris Bank Center.
