Lowell takes its five-game winning streak across Massachusetts on Wednesdmay for a visit to division-rival Springfield, which has yet to suffer a home regulation loss (5-0-2-1)… The Devils have already won twice at the MassMutual Center this season, once in a shootout and once in overtime… Ben Walter has netted a goal in three straight games and has a point in five straight (4-3-7) for Lowell, and rookie Nathan Perkovich has racked up five goals and eight points in his last five contests… Devils second-year pro Vladimir Zharkov shows multiple points in three straight outings (1-5-6), and rookie Nick Palmieri has found the scoresheet in four straight games (1-3-4)… The Falcons, 5-1-3-1 in their last 10 games overall, are led by Charles Linglet, who is tied for third in the league with 20 points (7-13-20) in 17 games after totaling 25 points in 58 AHL games last season… Falcons forwards Chad Wiseman (4-3-7) and Colton Fretter (1-5-6) are each riding four-game scoring streaks… Springfield has converted 31.3 percent of its home-ice power plays (10-for-32), the second-best mark in the league.
Peoria begins a three-game road swing at Houston on Wednesday in the teams’ first meeting since their 2009 West Division semifinal, won by the Aeros in seven games… The Rivermen, who have played 11 of their first 16 contests at home, are just 1-2-0-2 away from Carver Arena thus far… Peoria’s Jonas Junland, a 2009 AHL All-Star, ranks third among AHL defensemen with 16 points (6-10-16) and has a point in 13 of 16 games on the season… Rookie forward Lars Eller is averaging a point per game (3-10-13) with the Rivermen in between NHL call-ups to St. Louis, and veteran defenseman Bryce Lampman has a point in three of his last four contests (3-1-4)… Houston, which is 9-9-0-0 on the season, shows 35 goals in its nine victories (average 3.89) and 10 goals in its nine losses (average 1.11)… Former Rivermen winger Jon DiSalvatore paces the Aeros with 11 points (3-8-11) in 18 contests, and Danny Irmen shows a team-high six goals (6-4-10) in 17 tilts after totaling seven goals in 69 games for Houston last season… Peoria brings the AHL’s third-best power play (23.6 percent) to town, but the Aeros feature the league’s second-ranked penalty kill (94.1 percent).
After taking a 4-1 victory on Tuesday, Abbotsford hosts division-rival Hamilton at the Entertainment & Sports Centre on Wedneday in the back end of a two-game set… Heat rookie defenseman John Negrin, who has already appeared in three NHL games for Calgary this season, recorded his third consecutive goal-and-an-assist performance in Tuesday’s win… Jason Jaffray netted his team-leading ninth goal of the campaign and now has a point in three straight games (3-3-6) for Abbotsford, which received its other scores on Tuesday from Cam Cunning and Kris Chucko… Heat goaltender Leland Irving (8-6-1, 2.46, .918) made 33 saves and allowed one or fewer goals for the sixth time in 16 appearances this season… Hamilton has managed only one goal in four of its last five games, a 5-1 win over Syracuse on Saturday standing as the lone exception… David Desharnais scored for the Bulldogs on Tuesday and has a point in all three games (2-2-4) since returning from an injury suffered in preseason… Ben Maxwell (3-8-11 in 16 games) and Brock Trotter (3-8-11 in 16 games) are tied for the Hamilton team scoring lead… Abbotsford has registered an AHL-leading six shorthanded goals, five of them at home.
