LOOKING AHEAD:
Something has to give in San Antonio tonight when Milwaukee brings its five-game winning streak to town to battle the first-place Rampage, who have also won five straight… The Admirals, who are beginning a seven-game, 10-day tour of Texas and Oklahoma, sit six points back of San Antonio for the West Division’s top spot but still hold three games in hand… Milwaukee goaltender Mark Dekanich (8-1-1) has posted a shutout in each of his last two appearances, and owns the AHL’s top save percentage (.945) and its second-best goals-against average (1.48)… The Admirals’ Chris Mueller is coming off back-to-back two-goal games (4-1-5) at Lake Erie last weekend after totaling one goal in his first 13 outings this year… Linus Klasen paces the Ads in both goals (8) and points (14)… San Antonio has won 12 of 14 since beginning the season 1-2-1-0… Mathieu Beaudoin has a team-high 19 points (9-10-19), including at least one in 14 of his first 18 games in a Rampage uniform… Beaudoin’s nine points are tied for the team lead along with Alexandre Picard (9-6-15)… San Antonio goaltender Matt Climie (8-3-0) has the AHL’s fourth-best save percentage (.939).

Houston looks to continue its surge, opening a busy weekend in Grand Rapids on Friday before traveling to Chicago on Saturday and hosting Texas on Sunday… The Aeros are 6-1-0-2 following a 2-5-1-0 start to the season and have moved into a tie for fourth place in the West Division… Rookie defenseman Jarod Palmer paces the Aeros with 10 points (2-8-10) through 14 contests… Petr Kalus has netted a goal in each of his last two games for Houston after going his previous 11 outings without scoring… Houston rookie goaltender Matt Hackett (4-3-1, 2.82, .908) is coming off back-to-back wins last weekend, and counterpart Anton Khudobin (4-4-1) places seventh in the AHL with a 2.07 goals-against average… Grand Rapids has totaled just three goals in its last four contests (1-2-0-1), including a pair of shutouts against… Ilari Filppula continues to lead the Griffins with 15 points (6-9-15) but is currently in a five-game scoring drought… First-year defenseman Brendan Smith posted 5-6-11 in his first 10 games but shows 0-1-1 in six games since… Grand Rapids has the AHL’s third-ranked power play (21.4 percent) and fifth-ranked penalty kill (88.6 percent).

Norfolk wraps up a five-game road trip on Friday at East Division-leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the teams’ first meeting of the year… The Admirals are 1-1-2-0 on the trip thus far and 3-4-4-1 since beginning the season with four straight victories… Norfolk’s third-ranked offense (3.80 goals per game) will go up against Wilkes-Barre’s second-ranked defense (2.14 goals allowed per game)… Paul Szczechura has a goal in three of his last four games (3-2-5) and leads the Admirals with eight overall (8-7-15)… Marc-Antoine-Pouliot has racked up a team-leading 18 points (4-14-18) in 12 games for Norfolk between NHL recalls, and Blair Jones has a point in eight of his first 11 outings this season (5-8-13)… Penguins goaltender Brad Thiessen is a perfect 8-0-0 (1.74, .936) on the season… Former Admiral Ryan Craig has three goals in his last four games for Wilkes-Barre, all game-winners… The Penguins’ Dustin Jeffrey shows a point in five of his last six contests (3-5-8).

On Thursday, 2008 AHL All-Star Tuukka Rask registered a 41-save shutout for his first victory of the season as Boston blanked Florida, 4-0… Two-time AHL All-Star (2006, 2008) Pekka Rinne made 30 saves as Nashville shut out Montreal, 3-0… 1998 AHL All-Star Martin St. Louis had five assists in Tampa Bay’s wild 8-7 win in Philadelphia… In Wednesday’s action, rookie Kevin Shattenkirk nabbed his first career NHL goal in Colorado’s 4-3 win over San Jose.
