LOOKING AHEAD:
Toronto takes to the road for three games in Pennsylvania this weekend, visiting Wilkes-Barre on Friday, Hershey on Saturday and Philadelphia on Sunday… The Marlies have struggled on home ice this season, but are 6-4-0-1 – including a current three-game win streak – on the road… Erik Westrum, who finished second in the entire AHL in scoring in 2005-06, leads the Marlies in goals (nine), assists (17) and points (26) this year… Kris Newbury has recorded 12 points in his last 10 games for Toronto (3g, 9a)… The Penguins, Friday night’s opponents, have won seven of their last eight at home and are 8-1-1-2 in their last dozen games overall… Daniel Carcillo has scored a goal in five straight games for the Pens, tied for the longest such streak in club history.

Portland and Providence begin the weekend as co-leaders in the Atlantic Division, but that could easily change Friday night when the Pirates host third-place Manchester and the Bruins entertain fourth-place Lowell… The Monarchs have earned points in 13 of their last 16 games (8-3-4-1) to close to within a point of first place; the Devils are just two back of the Pirates and B’s… Manchester’s Jason LaBarbera has stopped 99 of 103 shots (2-1-0, 1.31, .961) in three starts against Portland this season, including 32 saves in a 3-2 overtime win on Dec. 9… Providence and Lowell, who also play each other Sunday afternoon, have split their first two meetings of the year, with the Devils’ Frank Doyle and the Bruins’ Jordan Sigalet each recording a shutout.

First-place Chicago meets second-place Omaha in a West Division showdown at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill., on Friday night… The Wolves have won six of their last seven home games and own a five-point lead over the Knights, who have won four straight overall thanks largely to the play of goaltender Curtis McElhinney (4-0-0, 0.96, .964 since Dec. 1)… Dustin Boyd had a goal and two assists plus two shootout goals in Omaha’s 4-3 win in Houston last Saturday… Chicago’s Darren Haydar will look to continue his march toward history; the AHL’s leading scorer has a point in 27 straight games entering the weekend, four shy of the all-time league record… Cory Larose is coming off a five-point night in the Wolves’ 7-3 win at Iowa on Tuesday.
