LOOKING AHEAD:
Lowell hosts Portland on Wednesday in a clash of unbeatens in the AHL’s Atlantic Division… Eric Staal and 2004 AHL All-Star Game MVP Mike Zigomanis lead the Lock Monsters in scoring with three points each in two games, and rookie Justin Taylor scored twice on Sunday, including his first pro goal on a penalty shot against Wilkes-Barre’s Marc-Andre Fleury… The Pirates opened their 12th season with a pair of home wins over St. John’s… Brooks Laich, who scored one goal in 22 regular-season games with Portland last year, netted one in each of the weekend contests… The Pirates have earned a point in each of their last five trips to Tsongas Arena (3w-0l-1otl-1t).

Albany visits Bridgeport on Wednesday for the second time in five days, having dropped a 4-1 decision to the Sound Tigers on Saturday night… Rookie Zach Parise is the only River Rat with a point in each of their first two games, with a goal and two assists; Aleksander Suglobov leads the team in scoring thanks to a four-point effort on opening night against Binghamton… Ryan Kraft (1g, 2a) and Justin Mapletoft (3a) each recorded three points against Albany on Saturday, and Wade Dubielewicz made 23 saves for the win in net… Bridgeport has six wins and a tie to show for its last seven regular-season home games, and is 10-1-2 all-time against the River Rats at the Arena at Harbor Yard, outscoring Albany by a 42-15 margin.

Houston hits the road on Wednesday to take on Chicago for the first of 10 meetings this season between the clubs… The Aeros, who split their first two games last weekend, have gotten exactly one point from nine different scorers to start 2004-05; Steve Maltais has scored all three goals for the Wolves during the first 0-2-0-0 start in the franchise’s 11-year history… Former Aeros forward Cory Larose has three assists for Chicago, and Travis Roche, a member of Houston’s 2003 Calder Cup championship team, picked up an assist on Saturday for his first point in a Wolves uniform… The Aeros are winless in their last eight trips to Allstate Arena (0w-5l-2otl-1t).
