Amerks duo earns Milestone award for October

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League has selected the record-tying performances of Rochester Americans forwards Jason Pominville and Chris Taylor as the CCM/AHL Milestone of the Month for October.

On Oct. 21, both players matched all-time highs for the 50-year-old Americans franchise in an 8-4 victory over the Cleveland Barons at the Blue Cross Arena. Pominville scored five goals and Taylor dished out six assists on the historic night.

Pominville became the third Rochester player ever to register five goals in one game, and the first since Donald Audette back on Oct. 29, 1989. It was the first five-goal game in the AHL since Kyle Wellwood’s effort for St. John’s on Oct. 30, 2004, also against Cleveland.

Taylor posted the first six-assist night by an Amerk since Geordie Robertson in 1983, and just the fourth in team history. The last AHL player to record six assists in one game had been Jonathan Girard for Providence on Jan. 12, 2001, and the last AHL’er with six points in one contest was Portland’s Peter Ferraro on Jan. 25, 2003.

In recognition of earning the CCM/AHL Milestone of the Month, Pominville and Taylor will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Americans home game.
