Amerks’ Jacina, Rampage’s Yandle recalled

The Florida Panthers on Tuesday evening announced that they have recalled right wing Greg Jacina from the Rochester Americans (AHL).

Jacina, 24, played in two games with Rochester this season, scoring three goals with one assist. The Guelph, Ont., native also played in three preseason NHL games for the Panthers, recording one assist.

A fourth-year pro, Jacina has totaled 21 goals and 29 assists for 50 points in 128 career AHL games. He made his NHL debut with the Panthers during 2005-06, recording one assist in 11 games.

Florida is home on Wednesday to take on the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes.


The Phoenix Coyotes announced today that they have recalled rookie defenseman Keith Yandle from the San Antonio Rampage, the club’s affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL).

Yandle, 20, has registered two assists and four penalty minutes in two games with San Antonio this season.

The Boston native is in his first professional season after leading all Canadian Hockey League defensemen in scoring and being named CHL Defenseman of the Year last season. Yandle registered 25 goals and 59 assists for 84 points and 109 PIM in 66 games with Moncton of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) in 2005-06. He tied for second in goals and ranked second in assists among all CHL defensemen. Yandle also ranked tied for fourth in the QMJHL in plus/minus at plus-50.

Yandle led Moncton to a first-place finish in the QMJHL and a trip to the Memorial Cup Finals last season. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound blueliner was honored with the Emile Bouchard Trophy as the QMJHL’s best defenseman and received the Telus Trophy as the league’s defensive player of the year. Yandle was also named to the QMJHL’s First All-Star Team. Yandle was a CHL rookie last season. Previously, he played in 34 games for Cushing Academy in Massachusetts (USHS) in 2004-05, registering 14 goals and 40 assists. Yandle was a New England Prep School First Team All-Star in 2004 and 2005.

Yandle, selected by the Coyotes in the fourth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, will join Phoenix in time for their game against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday night.
