The Florida Panthers have acquired forward Dominic Toninato from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for defenseman Jacob MacDonald.
Toninato, 25, tallied 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points in 57 AHL games with the Colorado Eagles in 2018-19, his second pro season.
The native of Duluth, Minn., also appeared in two games with the Avalanche and scored his first NHL goal on Feb. 14, 2019.
Originally selected by Toronto in the fifth round of the 2012 NHL Draft, Toninato has totaled 21 goals and 20 assists in 88 AHL contests with Colorado and San Antonio. He has added one goal and two assists in 39 NHL contests with the Avalanche.
MacDonald, 26, recorded 14 goals and 29 assists for 43 points in 72 games for the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds in 2018-19. He also made his NHL debut with Florida, registering one goal in two games.
A native of Portland, Ore., MacDonald enters his fifth pro season having appeared in 182 career AHL contests, totaling 42 goals and 80 assists for 122 points. He was a First Team AHL All-Star in 2017-18 and also played in the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic.
