The Colorado Avalanche have signed defenseman Roland McKeown to a one-year contract for the 2021-22 season.
McKeown spent the 2020-21 season with Skelleftea in the Swedish Hockey League following four years with the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers, including a Calder Cup championship in 2019. He served as Charlotte’s captain in 2019-20.
The native of Listowel, Ont., has appeared in 271 regular-season AHL games, totaling 16 goals and 68 assists for 84 points along with a plus-61 rating. McKeown finished in the top 10 in the league in plus/minus in both 2017-18 (+34) and 2018-19 (+30).
Originally a second-round pick by Los Angeles in the 2014 NHL Draft, McKeown has recorded three assists in 10 career NHL games with the Hurricanes.
