B-Sens bomb Pirates, take control of series

2011 Calder Cup Playoffs

BINGHAMTON 6, PORTLAND 1
Binghamton built a 5-1 lead after two periods and rolled to a 6-1 win over Portland on Monday at the Broome County Arena. Kaspars Daugavins registered two goals and a helper for the Senators, who now hold a commanding 3-1 edge in the Atlantic Division Finals.

Daugavins notched the eventual game-winning goal at 8:27 of the first period and then added an unassisted tally just 1:26 into the second frame. He has now racked up five goals and six points in his last three games after putting up a 2-1-3 line through his first eight playoff outings.

Senators captain Ryan Keller put up a goal and an assist in the winning effort, and Mike Hoffman registered his first professional playoff goal.

Once the B-Sens held a 4-1 lead, Ryan Potulny put the game out of reach with his league-leading ninth and 10th goals of the postseason. Potulny also leads the AHL with 19 playoff points (10-9-19).

AHL MVP Corey Locke contributed a trio of assists for the Senators, and rookie goaltender Robin Lehner turned aside 22 of 23 shots between the pipes.

AHL rookie of the year Luke Adam registered the lone goal for the Pirates, who were outshot 16-8 in the opening period and 39-23 for the game. Starting goaltender David Leggio was pulled after surrendering four goals on 20 shots, and Jhonas Enroth made 17 stops in relief.

Game 5 is set for Tuesday night in Binghamton, and a Senators win would send them to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2003.
