Barons win, raise $26,850 for Special Olympics

(okcbarons.com) — Oklahoma City Barons fans were treated to a 7-3 win over the Charlotte Checkers on Friday night, and following the game, the fans treated Special Olympics Oklahoma.

The Barons wore one-of-a-kind jerseys in their Friday night contest against Charlotte. Jonathan Cheechoo tied a franchise record with five points on a goal and four assists, and Philippe Cornet and Mark Arcobello added two goals and two assists each for Oklahoma City.

But that wasn’t the story. Following the game, the Barons’ one-of-a-kind jerseys were available for bids in a live auction, and Barons fans didn’t disappoint.

Fans contributed $26,850, with all proceeds from the auction benefiting the Barons Buddies program with Special Olympics Oklahoma. Over the last two seasons, fans have donated over $50,000 to the Barons Buddies program and Special Olympics Oklahoma.

Beginning Monday, fans can bid on the one-of-a-kind Barons jerseys for Jordan Eberle, Taylor Hall, Justin Schultz and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Check the Barons website at okcbarons.com or the Barons Facebook page, facebook.com/okcbarons, for information about placing bids on the Barons Special Olympics jerseys for those four players. Proceeds from the auction benefit Special Olympics Oklahoma.
