Barons work OT again, edge Rampage

Chris VandeVelde lifted a shot into the upper portion of the net 15:50 into overtime as Oklahoma City beat San Antonio, 2-1, to take a 2-1 series lead at AT&T Center on Monday night.

Game 4 of this Western Conference semifinal is Thursday at 8:00 ET in San Antonio.

The Barons have played consecutive overtime games in this series, their first two in their brief Calder Cup history, and won both.

VandeVelde’s winner was his second goal in as many games. Tanner House and Dan Ringwald earned the assists.

Oklahoma City outshot San Antonio, 36-26. The Barons have collected more shots than their opponent in all seven Calder Cup games they’ve played this season.

The Barons tallied the only goal of the first period as Anton Lander picked up a loose puck near the net and shot one past Jacob Markstrom, assisted by Ryan Keller and Philippe Cornet. Oklahoma City has scored first in six of seven playoff games.

After a scoreless second, James Wright tied the game on a power play at 11:06 of the third, picking up a loose puck at the edge of the crease.

Yann Danis improved to 5-2 during the playoffs by making 25 saves. Markstrom stopped 34 shots in dropping to 4-2.
