Bass master of OT again

Game 2 (OT)

Cody Bass became the third player in AHL history to score back-to-back sudden-death overtime goals in the Calder Cup Playoffs, helping the Springfield Falcons to a 3-2 win over Manchester in Game 2 of their best-of-five series on Sunday.

The Falcons take a 2-0 series lead up to Manchester, where Game 3 will be played on Thursday.

Bass grabbed a big rebound and buried the game-winner past Martin Jones at 18:44 of the extra period.

Springfield’s Trent Vogelhuber opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal 2:49 into the game.

Nick Deslauriers and Anthony Stewart answered for the Monarchs, but the Falcons pulled even at 7:11 of the third period on a power-play goal by defenseman David Savard.

Curtis McElhinney (2-0) finished the game with 41 saves, including stops on all 13 shots he faced in overtime. Jones (0-2) made 35 saves on 38 shots.

Bass joins Chris VandeVelde (Oklahoma City vs. San Antonio, 2012) and Jim Wiemer (Rochester vs. New Haven, 1983) as the only players in AHL history to score OT winners in consecutive playoff games.
