Bears, Cornet agree to terms

The Hershey Bears announced today that the club has agreed to terms with forward Philippe Cornet on a one-year American Hockey League contract.

Cornet, 24, began the 2013-14 season with the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage before being acquired by the Charlotte Checkers on Nov. 22. In 62 total games, Cornet recorded 13 goals and 16 assists for 29 points.

The 6-foot, 196-pound native of Val-Senneville, Que., has played parts of four seasons in the AHL with Oklahoma City, San Antonio and Charlotte, totaling 59 goals and 63 assists for 122 points in 235 regular-season games. He has four goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 31 career playoff appearances, reaching the Western Conference Finals with the Barons in 2012 and 2013.

Cornet’s best numbers came in 2011-12, when he scored 24 goals and finished with 37 points, both career highs. Cornet participated in the 2012 AHL All-Star Classic, and made his NHL debut with Edmonton that winter, tallying one assist in two games with the Oilers.

Cornet was selected by Edmonton in the fifth round (133rd overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
