Bears push Penguins back to the brink

Frederic Cassivi’s sixth career Calder Cup Playoff shutout has the Hershey Bears one win away from the Eastern Conference Finals after Saturday’s 2-0 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.

The Bears have a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven East Division final, with Game 4 scheduled for Wednesday night.

The Penguins were held to just 19 shots on goal for the evening despite having 10 power-play opportunities. Wilkes-Barre has lost seven straight playoff games to Hershey going back to last postseason.

Matt Hendricks scored his third goal of the series 8:38 into the game, and Quintin Laing added his second goal and fourth point in three games at 13:16 of the second period.

Cassivi improved to 7-1 this postseason, 23-6 over the last two playoff years and 30-9 all-time in 40 career playoff appearances as a Bear.

Nolan Schaefer (4-5) made 20 saves for the Penguins.
