Bears sign defenseman Hughes

The Hershey Bears have announced the signing of defenseman Tommy Hughes to a one-year American Hockey League contract.

Hughes, 25, spent the last four seasons with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, recording five goals and 25 assists for 30 points in 226 regular-season games. He also had one goal and two assists in 15 postseason games in 2015, scoring the decisive overtime goal in a winner-take-all Game 5 vs. Providence in the first round.

Last season, Hughes notched five assists in 53 games with Hartford.

A native of London, Ont., Hughes played junior hockey with the OHL’s London Knights.
