Blackhawks agree to terms with Abbott

The Chicago Blackhawks, parent club of the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs, announced today they have agreed to terms with forward Spencer Abbott on a one-year contract.

Abbott, 28, played the 2015-16 season in the Swedish Hockey League with the Frolunda Indians, where he scored 14 goals and added 21 assists in 42 games. He added one assist in nine playoff games.

The native of Hamilton, Ont., returns to the Blackhawks organization where he played 19 games with Rockford during the 2014-15 season. He tallied 21 points (12 goals, nine assists) during the regular season and six points (three goals, three assists) in eight postseason appearances for Rockford.

Abbott has played 187 career AHL games with Rockford and Toronto, notching 49 goals and 99 assists for 148 points. He has appeared in one NHL contest, with Toronto in 2013-14.
