Blue Jackets assign Smith to Springfield

The Columbus Blue Jackets have reassigned goaltender Jeremy Smith to the American Hockey League’s Springfield Falcons.

Smith, 25, compiled a 21-14-3 record in 38 games with Springfield during the 2013-14 regular season, also registering a 2.78 goals-against average and an .898 save-percentage. The 6-foot, 180-pound netminder has a career AHL record of 87-60-10 with a 2.48 GAA, .904 SV% and nine shutouts in 166 games with Milwaukee and Springfield.

Nashville’s second-round pick, 54th overall, at the 2007 NHL Draft, Smith was signed by Columbus last summer after spending three seasons with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals.
