Blues re-sign Whitfield

The St. Louis Blues, parent club of the AHL’s Peoria Rivermen, announced on Tuesday that the club has re-signed center Trent Whitfield.

Whitfield, 29, ranked first on the Rivermen in goals (33), power-play goals (20), assists (45) and points (78) in 79 games played in 2006-07.

The 5-foot-11, 204-pound forward skated in 30 games for the Blues during the 2005-06 campaign, recording seven points (two goals, five assists) along with 14 penalty minutes. Whitfield has played in a total of 174 NHL games, recording 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) along with 70 penalty minutes.

In 468 career AHL contests with Peoria and Portland, Whitfield has totaled 154 goals and 232 assists for 386 points.

Whitfield, a native of Estevan, Sask., was originally Boston’s fourth-round selection, 100th overall in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
