Brouwer named top rookie for March

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Norfolk Admirals right wing Troy Brouwer has been named the Rbk Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month for March. Brouwer recorded 12 goals and six assists for 18 points in 11 games en route to setting a franchise record for goals in a season.

Brouwer scored a goal in nine of his 11 contests during the month, including a six-game streak from Mar. 4-17 that was the longest in Admirals history. On Mar. 9, he scored twice in a 4-3 win over Binghamton including his 34th goal of the season, setting another team record, and he tied a club mark on Mar. 28 with his 20th power-play goal of the year in a 5-1 win over Philadelphia.

In recognition of his achievement, Brouwer will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Admirals home game.

A 21-year-old native of Delta, B.C., Brouwer ranks second in the AHL with 40 goals and is tied for fifth with 77 points in 63 games for Norfolk in 2006-07. He is also second overall with 20 power-play goals and tied for third with seven game-winning markers. Drafted by Chicago in 2004, Brouwer has appeared in 10 games with the Blackhawks this season, and also represented the Admirals at the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic.
