Bruins down, Bears up next as Monarchs advance

Tim Jackman’s tally at 6:09 of the second period broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the game winner as the Manchester Monarchs advanced to the Eastern Conference Final with a 2-1 win over Providence in Game 6 on Monday night.

The Monarchs will face former head coach Bruce Boudreau and his Hershey Bears for the right to play for the Calder Cup.

Brian Boyle got on the board for Manchester with a power-play goal in the first period while teammate Marty Murray assisted on both goals in the win.

Murray scored four goals and nine points in the series for Manchester, increasing his playoff totals to 13 points (6g, 7a) in 12 contests.

Jason LaBarbera won his third straight start for Manchester by stopping 27 of 28 shots, including all 10 in the second and eight in the third periods of play.

Jeff Hoggan scored the lone goal for Providence as netminder Hannu Toivonen made 25 saves in the loss.

The Monarchs and Bears will face off in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals beginning Saturday, May 19 at Giant Center.
