Marchand, who turned 21 years old on May 11, was a third-round draft pick (71st overall) in 2006 by the Boston Bruins, and he ranked third on Providence with 59 points (18-41-59) during the 2008-09 regular season.

A native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Marchand’s 59 regular-season points were good for second among all AHL rookies, and he was named the Reebok Edge/AHL Rookie of the Month for January after racking up 16 points and a plus-8 rating in 13 games for the Bruins that month.

Marchand’s six postseason goals are tops on the B’s, and his 13 points rank second behind Martin St. Pierre’s 14. Marchand has registered at least one point in 10 of Providence’s 13 playoff games to date, helping the Bruins reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2005.

Prior to turning pro, Marchand played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for Moncton, Val d’Or, and Halifax.
