Bruins nip Lock Monsters, 4-3

In the only AHL action on Super Bowl Sunday, Mark Stuart scored with 3:07 left in regulation to give Providence a 4-3 victory over visiting Lowell.

Tyler Redenbach and Zdenek Blatny added a goal and two assists each for the Bruins, who moved seven points up on the fifth-place Lock Monsters in the Atlantic Division.

Vince Bellissimo gave Lowell an early lead, but Providence scored three times in just over three minutes before the end of the first period.

The Lock Monsters rallied, getting goals from Chris Hajt and Cody McLeod to tie the score midway through the third.

A hooking call against Steve Saviano with 4:53 left gave the B’s their third power play of the afternoon, and Stuart’s second goal of the season put Providence back in front to stay.

Jordan Sigalet made 22 saves in the win. Tyler Weiman also stopped 22 shots, getting the start after Vitaly Kolesnik left Lowell to join Kazakhstan for the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Turin.
