Bulldogs sign Dowell

The Hamilton Bulldogs have signed forward Jake Dowell to a one-year American Hockey League contract for the 2014-15 season.

Dowell appeared in 57 games for the AHL’s Iowa Wild in 2013-14, recording seven goals and 12 assists while serving as team captain. He was also awarded the Fred T. Hunt Award as the AHL player who best exemplified the qualities of sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey as voted by the league’s players, coaches and media.

A veteran of seven professional seasons, Dowell has registered 33 goals and 60 assists for 93 points in 305 career AHL games with Iowa, Houston, Rockford and Norfolk since turning pro following his senior season at the University of Wisconsin in 2006-07. He was a member of Wisconsin’s national championship team in 2006 and won gold with the United States at the World Junior Championships in 2004.

Dowell, who skated in one NHL game with Minnesota last season, has appeared in 157 career NHL contests with Minnesota, Dallas and Chicago, totaling 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points. He was originally selected by the Blackhawks in the fifth round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
