Butler signs with Devils

The New Jersey Devils, parent club of the AHL’s Albany Devils, on Thursday signed forward Bobby Butler to a two-way contract.

Butler joins the Devils after spending the past two seasons with the Ottawa Senators’ organization. In 2011-12, he recorded six goals and 10 assists for 16 points and 12 penalty minutes in 56 regular-season appearances, while also playing in three playoff contests. The 6-foot, 185-pound forward has career totals of 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points and 22 penalty minutes in 94 games played.

Butler, 25, split his rookie season of 2010-11 between Ottawa and Binghamton, notching 22 goals and 11 assists for 33 points in 47 regular-season AHL games for the B-Senators and earning MVP honors at the 2011 AHL All-Star Game. Butler then scored 13 goals and tallied four assists for 17 points in 23 playoff games as Binghamton captured the Calder Cup championship.

A native of Marlborough, Mass., Butler played four seasons at the Univeristy of New Hampshire and was originally signed as a free agent by Ottawa on Mar. 29, 2010.
