Canadiens recall Pateryn

The Montreal Canadiens announced Thursday that they have recalled defenseman Greg Pateryn from the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs.

Pateryn, 22, has played 22 games for the Bulldogs this season recording eight points (four goals, four assists) and 15 penalty minutes. The native of Sterling Heights, Mich., played four seasons for the University of Michigan, registering 43 points (six goals, 37 assists) a plus-44 rating and 143 penalty minutes in 142 regular-season games. In 2009-10, Pateryn helped lead the Wolverines to an NCAA championship.

The 6-foot-2, 219-pound defenseman was acquired by the Canadiens in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, along with a second-round pick in 2010, in exchange for Mikhail Grabovski. Pateryn was originally drafted by the Maple Leafs in the fifth round, 128th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
