Canadiens sign goaltender MacDonald

The Montreal Canadiens, parent club of the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs, announced today that the team has agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with free-agent goaltender Joey MacDonald.

MacDonald has appeared in 300 career regular-season AHL games during his 13 professional seasons, and has a record of 144-125-16 with 24 shutouts playing for Grand Rapids (2002-07, 10-12), Bridgeport (2007-08), Toronto (2009-10) and Abbotsford (2013-14).

He has also played 133 games in the NHL, going 44-61-15 with two shutouts for Detroit, Boston, the New York Islanders, Toronto and Calgary.

A native of Pictou, N.S., MacDonald ranks 24th all-time in AHL victories (144) and tied for 10th in shutouts (24).
