Canucks sign Ferriero, DeFazio

The Vancouver Canucks, NHL affiliate of the AHL’s Utica Comets, have signed forwards Benn Ferriero and Brandon DeFazio.

Ferriero, 26, totaled eight goals and 22 assists for 30 points in 57 AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Connecticut in 2012-13. He also appeared in four NHL games with the Rangers, notching one assist.

In four pro seasons, the native of Essex, Mass., has notched 52 goals and 81 assists for 133 points in 178 games. Originally drafted by Phoenix in 2006, Ferriero spent three seasons (2009-12) in the Sharks organization split between San Jose and Worcester. He has 14 goals and nine assists in 96 career NHL contests.

DeFazio, 24, spent the 2012-13 season with the AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, collecting 11 goals and 14 assists for 25 points, along with 139 penalty minutes, in 69 games.

DeFazio, entering his third pro season, has registered 22 goals and 19 assists for 41 points in 137 career AHL games with Bridgeport and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He was undrafted out of Clarkson University.
