Canucks sign Joslin, Mullen

The Vancouver Canucks, parent club of the AHL’s Chicago Wolves, announced today that the Canucks have signed defensemen Derek Joslin and Patrick Mullen.

Joslin, 27, split the 2011-12 season between the Carolina Hurricanes and Charlotte Checkers (AHL). He appeared in 44 games, collecting four points and 35 penalty minutes, with Carolina and added three assists in four games with Charlotte.

The Richmond Hill, Ont., native has recorded four goals and 12 assists in 114 career NHL games with Carolina and San Jose. Originally selected by San Jose in the fifth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Joslin spent three seasons with the Sharks’ AHL affiliate in Worcester and was an AHL All-Star in 2009.

Mullen, 26, collected 13 goals and 28 assists for 41 points in 69 games with the Manchester Monarchs in 2011-12, tying for fourth among AHL defensemen in goals. He added one goal and two assists in four playoff games.

In three pro seasons, Mullen has totaled 20 goals and 51 assists in 180 AHL games with the Monarchs.
