Canucks sign Reid, Moran

The Vancouver Canucks, NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, announced that they have signed centers Brandon Reid and Brad Moran to National Hockey League contracts.

Reid, 25, has spent the past two seasons in Europe. In 206 career AHL games over three seasons with the Manitoba Moose (2001-04), Reid collected 55 goals and 94 assists for 149 points. The 2004 AHL All-Star was the Moose’s leading scorer in both the 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons.

In eight career postseason games with the Moose, Reid had a goal and four assists for five points.

In 10 career NHL games with the Canucks, Reid scored two goals and four assists for six points. He has also appeared in nine playoff games with Vancouver in 2003, collecting an assist.

Reid was originally Vancouver’s seventh-round choice, 208th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Moran, 27, spent last season in Switzerland after five years with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. He is the Crunch’s all-time leader with 334 games played, 143 assists and 241 points.

In 22 career Calder Cup Playoff games in Syracuse, Moran scored 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points. He also appeared in five career NHL games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he scored a goal and an assist for two points.

Moran was originally Buffalo’s seventh round choice, 191st overall, in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
