Capitals sign Laing

The Washington Capitals, parent club of the AHL’s Hershey Bears, have signed free-agent left wing Quintin Laing.

In keeping with club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Laing, 27, had a stellar season in 2005-06, recording career highs with 14 goals and 31 assists for 45 points in 73 games for the Norfolk Admirals. He has played in 357 AHL games, all with Norfolk, during the past six seasons, posting 47 goals and 82 assists for 129 points and 273 penalty minutes.

Laing made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2003-04, appearing in three games and recording one assist.

Originally selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Laing played his junior hockey at Kelowna (WHL).
