Capitals sign Sgarbossa, Megna

The Washington Capitals have announced the signings of centers Michael Sgarbossa and Jayson Megna to one-year, two way contracts.

Sgarbossa, 25, appeared in 68 games for the AHL’s Manitoba Moose last season, collecting 16 goals and 24 assists for 40 points. He added two goals and three assists in nine playoff matches.

A native of Campbellville, Ont., Sgarbossa has appeared in 312 AHL games with Manitoba, Springfield, San Diego, Norfolk and Lake Erie, recording 72 goals and 127 assists for 199 points.

Sgarbossa has also played 48 games in the NHL with Florida, Anaheim and Colorado, totaling two goals and eight assists for 10 points.

Megna, 28, skated in 25 AHL games with Utica during an injury-shortened 2017-18 season, picking up four goals and nine assists. He also skated in one NHL game with Vancouver.

The seventh-year pro has played 241 games in the AHL with Utica, Hartford and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, tallying 60 goals and 66 assists for 126 points.

Megna has 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 113 career NHL games with Vancouver, the N.Y. Rangers and Pittsburgh.
