Checkers sign Herauf

Charlotte Checkers head coach and general manager Jeff Daniels and senior vice president of hockey business operations Derek Wilkinson announced today that the team has agreed to terms with left wing Brad Herauf on a one-way American Hockey League contract.

Herauf, 28, spent the 2009-10 season with Albany (AHL) where he notched five goals and six assists (11 points) and amassed 194 penalty minutes in 54 games. In 91 career AHL games, the 5-foot-11, 195-pound native of Regina, Sask., has seven goals, eight assists (15 points) and 310 penalty minutes.

Herauf played three full seasons in the ECHL from 2005-08, compiling 40 goals, 55 assists (95 points) and 820 penalty minutes in 202 games. In 2005-06, he led the ECHL in penalty minutes (344), while chipping in offensively with 13 goals and 17 assists (30 points).

Herauf becomes the seventh player signed by the Checkers this off-season.
