Conboy signs with Buffalo

Buffalo Sabres general manager Darcy Regier announced today the Sabres, parent club of the AHL’s Portland Pirates, have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with unrestricted free agent winger Tim Conboy.

Conboy appeared in 37 games with the Albany River Rats (AHL) last season, collecting three assists and 87 penalty minutes. Conboy also appeared in 12 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season, collecting 34 penalty minutes.

Overall, the Farmington, Minn., native appeared in 59 career NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes, picking up six assists and 121 penalty minutes. In 342 career AHL games with Albany and Cleveland, Conboy has collected 58 points (16 goals, 42 assists) and 826 penalty minutes.

Conboy was originally selected by the San Jose Sharks in the seventh round (217th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. The Hurricanes had signed Conboy as a free agent in July 2006.
