Coyotes acquire Russo from Detroit

The Arizona Coyotes have acquired defenseman Robbie Russo from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a 2019 conditional seventh-round draft choice.

Russo, 25, appeared in 75 regular-season games with Grand Rapids (AHL) in 2017-18, collecting a career-best nine goals to go with 23 assists for 32 points.

A member of the AHL All-Rookie Team and a Second Team AHL All-Star in 2015-16, Russo played 204 games with the Griffins over his first three pro seasons, totaling 21 goals and 82 assists for 103 points to go with a plus-61 rating. He also had one goal and 12 assists in 33 postseason contests and won a Calder Cup championship in 2017.

Russo, originally selected by the New York Islanders in the fourth round of the 2011 Entry Draft, has appeared in 19 career NHL games, all with Detroit in 2016-17.
