Coyotes add All-Star, Cup champion Roche

The Phoenix Coyotes, parent club of the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage, announced on Thursday they have signed defenseman Travis Roche to a two-year contract.

As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The 28-year-old Roche joins Phoenix after playing in 59 games with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves in 2005-06, collecting eight goals and 31 assists for 39 points. Roche led all Chicago defensemen in both assists and points last season.

In 317 career AHL games with Chicago and Houston over five seasons, Roche has totaled 55 goals and 154 assists for 209 points. He captured a Calder Cup championship with the Aeros in 2003 and returned to the Finals with the Wolves in 2005.

Roche played in the AHL All-Star Classic in 2004-05 and earned First Team AHL All-Star honors later that year. The native of Grand Cache, Alta., also captured the AHL’s Yanick Dupre Memorial Award for his community efforts in 2001-02.

Roche is the third AHL standout signed by the Coyotes in the last week, joining Donald MacLean and Bryan Helmer.
