Coyotes re-sign Picard

Phoenix Coyotes general manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes, parent club of the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage, have re-signed left wing Alexandre Picard to a one-year contract.

Picard, 24, recorded nine goals and six assists for 15 points in 16 games for the Rampage last season after being acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Chad Kolarik on Mar. 3, 2010. Picard totaled 26 goals, 24 assists, 50 points and 125 penalty minutes in 58 games between San Antonio and Syracuse, setting career highs in all four categories. He also appeared in nine NHL games for Columbus last season.

The 6-foot-2, 206-pound Picard has appeared in 67 career NHL games with Columbus, collecting two assists and 58 PIM. He made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets on Nov. 18, 2005. In 250 career AHL games with San Antonio and Syracuse, the native of Les Saules, Que., has tallied 81 goals, 80 assists and 475 PIM.

Picard was originally drafted by Columbus in the first round (8th overall) of the 2004 Entry Draft.
