Crunch hold on for wild Game 2 victory

Matthew Peca notched four points, Alexander Volkov scored a pair of goals and Syracuse held off Rochester, 6-5, on Saturday night to take a 2-0 lead in the teams’ best-of-five North Division semifinal series.

Game 3 is Wednesday night in Rochester.

The teams combined for 11 goals on 47 shots in Game 2, with Peca opening the scoring on a power-play goal 3:48 into the contest.

After Colin Blackwell tied things up for the Amerks, Mathieu Joseph gave the Crunch the lead back late in the first period before Olivier Archambault and Reid McNeill scored 46 seconds apart early in the second period to make it 4-1 in Syracuse’s favor.

Rochester cut the deficit to 4-3 on goals 52 seconds apart by Justin Bailey (shorthanded) and Stuart Percy, and the teams combined for a four-goal flurry in a span of 2:06 early in the third that left the Crunch ahead by the final 6-5 margin.

Eddie Pasquale (2-0) finished with 20 saves on 25 shots for Syracuse, while Linus Ullmark allowed six goals on 22 shots in the loss.
