The Syracuse Crunch have signed forward Eric Neilson and defenseman Joey Mormina to American Hockey League contracts, Crunch general manager Julien BriseBois announced today.
Neilson, 28, returns to the Crunch after playing in 39 games, recording one goal and 135 penalty minutes, during the 2012-13 season. The right wing has played in 225 career AHL games with Peoria, Hamilton, San Antonio, Norfolk and Syracuse, registering seven goals, six assists and 695 PIM.
A native of Fredericton, N.B., Neilson has won five consecutive IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year Awards for his respective teams for his work in the local community.
Neilson, a member of Norfolk’s Calder Cup championship team in 2012, was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the fifth round during the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Mormina, 31, spent the 2012-13 season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, recording three goals and seven assists in 54 regular-season games and one goal and seven assists in 15 games during the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs.
The Montreal native has appeared in 510 career AHL games with Manchester, Albany, Adirondack and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, totaling 24 goals, 89 assists and a plus-46 rating.
Mormina was drafted in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2002.
