Crunch’s Mayorov named Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Syracuse Crunch right wing Maksim Mayorov has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Apr. 11, 2010. Mayorov broke out of a slump and registered six goals and three assists for nine points in three games last week.

Without a point in his previous 16 games heading into the final week of the season, Mayorov scored a goal and assisted on two others in the Crunch’s 3-1 win over league-leading Hershey on Tuesday night. Then on Friday, Mayorov recorded his first career hat trick in a 5-4 overtime loss to North Division champion Hamilton. Finally, Mayorov scored two goals and added an assist on Saturday night as Syracuse wrapped up its 2009-10 schedule with a 5-2 decision over visiting Rochester.

Mayorov, 21, completed his second professional season with 17 goals and 15 assists for 32 points in 74 games. A fourth-round draft pick by Columbus in 2007, Mayorov had 17-14-31 as a rookie to total 34 goals and 29 assists in 145 games with Syracuse. The native of Andizhan, Uzbekistan, made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets last season and appeared in three games.
