Crunch’s Palmieri earns weekly award

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. … The American Hockey League announced today that Syracuse Crunch right wing Kyle Palmieri has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 31, 2010. Palmieri scored five goals and added an assist for six points in three games last week.

On Wednesday night, Palmieri notched his first career hat trick, scoring three times on three shots in a 5-4 loss at Hamilton. On Friday, his goal with four minutes remaining in regulation tied the score and earned the Crunch a standings point in a 4-3 overtime loss to Hershey. And on Saturday, Palmieri scored the go-ahead goal and recorded an assist as Syracuse defeated Albany, 3-2.

In recognition of his achievement, Palmieri will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Crunch home game.

Anaheim’s first-round pick (26th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Palmieri is tied for the overall AHL lead with seven goals and is tied for second among league rookies with nine points in nine games for the Crunch in 2010-11. The Smithtown, N.Y., native spent last season at the University of Notre Dame, tallying nine goals and eight assists in 33 games, and won a gold medal with the United States at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championships.
