Dallas signs Petersen, Byrne

The Dallas Stars, parent club of the AHL’s Iowa Stars, have agreed to terms with forward Toby Petersen and defenseman Trevor Byrne on one-year, two-way contracts for 2007-08.

Petersen, 28, spent the majority of the 2006-07 season in the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers, recording six goals and nine assists for 15 points in 64 games. He also tallied eight points (2g, 6a) in seven AHL contests with Iowa, and represented the United States at the 2007 World Championships in Moscow.

The Minneapolis native has compiled 114 goals and 173 assists for 287 points in 379 career AHL games with Iowa, Edmonton and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He reached the Calder Cup Finals in 2001 and 2004.

Petersen also has 41 points (16g, 25a) in 155 career NHL matches with Edmonton and Pittsburgh.
Byrne, 27, registered one goal and 13 assists in 44 combined AHL games for Hershey and Chicago in 2006-07. He added two goals and four assists in 15 Calder Cup Playoff games for the Wolves.

The native of Hingham, Mass., has collected 12 goals and 50 assists in 198 career AHL contests with Chicago, Hershey, Peoria and Worcester.
