Devils acquire Walter from Islanders

The New Jersey Devils, parent club of the AHL’s Lowell Devils, have acquired center Ben Walter, and future considerations, from the New York Islanders in exchange for the rights to center Tony Romano.

Walter, 25, had 20 goals and 30 assists for 50 points and 10 penalty minutes in 65 games with Bridgeport (AHL) last season, and also saw four games of NHL action with the Islanders. In four AHL seasons with Bridgeport and Providence, Walter has tallied 80 goals and 143 assists for 223 points in 268 games.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound forward was selected by Boston in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, and has played in 22 NHL games with the Islanders and Bruins.

Romano, New Jersey’s seventh choice, 178th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, spent last season with Peterborough (OHL).
