Devils solve Monarchs again with 7-3 victory

Benoit Mondou tallied a hat trick and added an assist as Lowell continued its dominance over Manchester with a 7-3 road win over the Monarchs on Tuesday at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

The seven goals marked a season high for the Devils, who moved to 7-1-0-0 against Manchester this season and 5-1-2-0 in their last eight games overall.

Defenseman Olli Malmivaara tallied two goals and posted an assist, while Petr Vrana (1-1-2), Erik Rasmussen (0-2-2), and Grant Marshall (0-2-2) contributed two points apiece.

Olivier Magnan totaled four assists for the Devils, who jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the midway point of the second period. Four of the five goals came on the power play, and Lowell finished 5-for-9 on the man-advantage for the game.

Devils goaltender Dave Caruso earned the victory with 35 saves on 38 shots.

The Monarchs received goals from Matt Ryan, Gabe Gauthier, and Petr Kanko in the losing effort.

Five different Portland skaters lit the lamp as the host Pirates posted a 5-1 win over Norfolk at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Tyler Bouck notched a goal and a helper for the Pirates, and Jay Leach, Drew Miller, Bobby Ryan, and Darryl Bootland each added a goal in the victory. Leach scored in his first game for the Pirates after being acquired earlier in the day from Norfolk.

2008 AHL All-Star Andrew Ebbett contributed three assists in the winning effort.

Portland goaltender Mike McKenna earned the win with 22 saves, as the Pirates reversed the score from Sunday’s 5-1 loss to the Admirals.

Norm Milley netted the Admirals’ lone goal, initially giving Norfolk a 1-0 first-period lead with an unassisted, shorthanded marker. Milley now has four goals and five points in his last three contests.
